Water Pump and Timing Belt on 2144cc

Hi all,

The dreaded water pump on my '82 A100 2.2i began to fail on Friday.
Remembering all the bad tales of overheating, warped heads, slipped timing
belts etc, I went straight to the parts shop and got a new one, together
with a timing belt.

I've changed the water pump, but can't seem to get the old timing belt off.
The engine is now running with the old belt (only about 6k on it).
Question is, how do you get the old belt past the bit that sticks out at
the bottom without damaging the old or new belt. I know you shouldn't
crimp them, but this would need the belt to bend 90 degrees. You don't
surely need to remove the crankshaft pully?

Even with the new pump, there is still a wineing noise from that area at
about 900-1300rpm. I'm beginning to think it's the power stearing pump.
The water pump I purchased is made by CAR in Italy, and cost 15ukp (from
German&Sweedish, Feltham). Are these any good, I was offered one of German
manufacture for 26ukp.

Cheers,

Mike.
