Racket! and compression test!

I don't think you'd have bent a valve by hand enough to hear it.  However, 
it's a long time since your engine ran and the lifters might indeed be 
completely empty by now.  Fill the oil right to the top of the range indicated 
on the dipstick.

Pull the coil ===> distributor lead at the distributor end and short it to 
chassis with a jumplead.
 
I always remove all the plugs and test each cylinder in turn.  If I get two 
adjacent lows, I repeat the tests for each with a plug in the other to see if 
there's cross-leakage.
