Best Drives in the US?
Awhile ago someone was talking about which highways/roads were the best
drives for car/quattro enthusiasts for overall fun, challenge and
scenery.
My vote is California 395 from Barstow to Tahoe. Out of Barstow you
have major flat stretches for high speed, and once in the Sierras you
have major twisties for cornering.
As far as scenic beauty, I am not sure where else you have
desert-into-mountain terrain so close in the US. Death Valley (just
east of 395) is the lowest point in the 48 states and only 80 miles away
is the highest point in the lower 48, Mt. Whitney. That is pretty cool
as far as driving goes.
