247 to 18 is the back way to Big Bear. It is very similar and shorter,
but the destination just isn't the same as Reno/Tahoe. A great road for
short trips around the LA Basin (one day). That and the Timmerman
favorite Rim of the World through the north mountains (race was just on
ESPN2).

True, but really only on weekends. I have seen aircraft in the desert
portions during the weekday, and even then a good Valentine and open
sunroof usually takes care of business.
