<All> Adhesive Remover

Andy Anderson (Z-car list) needed a good adhesive remover for window 
stickers.

A decent all-around solvent for many adhesives is denatured 
alcohol; it's better than rubbing alcohol, and good enough that I 
keep a quart about.  But BE WARNED that is poisonous, so keep it away 
from small kids!

The BEST general purpose adhesive remover, grease and stain remover, 
etc. I've EVER found is called "Lift-Off".  The full name (I swear!) 
is (or used to be) "Motzenbacher's Lift-Off"...but it's marketed 
under the last two words.  This stuff comes in a spray can with broad 
horizontal bands of red, yellow and blue, and I understand it is also 
available in a bottle as liquid.  It has a reasonably pleasant small, 
and is MAGIC for removing adhesives and on greasy stains and gook on 
laundry.  It has saved some of my shirts.

This used to be carried at a lot of car parts stores (I bought it at 
Hi/Lo auto parts), as the formula was owned by Loctite.  But the 
marketing has changed, and it's been hard to find for the last year.  
I called the company last week (listen, this is REALLY good 
stuff...) and heard that it is now available through ACE Hardware 
stores, although I'm not certain of the minimum order.  I have our 
local ACE dealer checking as I write this.  It is also supposed to be 
available thru Office Max, but the local store here (only opened 3 
days ago...) doesn't know of it and I can't find it in their catalog.

Evidently their marketing firm now is pushing it through office 
and hardware-type stores. If I get some positive news from ACE, I'll 
holler about it.

The company's name is Lift-Off, Inc., located in San Diego, phone 
619/581-0222.  They recommended me to a firm in Chicago which 
carries it; an office supply company called BE Atlas: 800/305-4393.
