Having been a member of the press in a past life, I wouldn't necessarily
hold Ripp responsible for the words that accompanied the photos of his car
... only true gearheads (like me!) are interested in reading about the
nuts-n-bolts details of what he's done and these articles are usually
"dumbed-down" accordingly.  :^(

Personally, I can't understand why he'd want a lower first gear in the first
place ... but you're correct, I don't know of any quattro wagon tranny with
a first gear lower than 3.60 either.
