Ok - I've paid more attention to the AC/Fan ops in the car lately. When I
engage the AC, my rpms drop 'about' 300 and slowly come back up (about 10-15
sec) unless I give it some gas. Disengaging results in an immediate rise of
about 300 rpm, slowly coming back to normal. Medium speed fan ops nearly the
same.

Consider: More ISV cleaning, testing for vacuum leaks (masked by ISV
operation except when AC is on, then ISV can't keep up). You can take a
current reading on the ISV (about 400ma normal).

Is the rpm dropping dramatically with no attempt to come back up?

Fluctuation is usually due to an overdue 02 sensor. Listen to the frequency
valve (little buzzing bee under the fender behind the fuel distributor). If
it cycles with the idle, the 02 sensor is correcting too slow (age).
