Don't worry about it. You didn't cause the depression. Our esteemed
government and greedy car manufacturers are responsible for our mental
health. The amazing thing is that in some european countries (Ireland for
example), cars cost even more.
The only good thing about the UK is that large Audis depreciate like a stone
- a couple of months ago I bought a good condition 1989 Audi 100 2.2E Avant
with 115kmiles for GBP2500. It needs a couple of hundred spent on it to
sort out some small niggles, but that is great value. According to books of
second-hand prices, a 2litre VW Passat (Dasher?) would cost slightly more
and a VW Polo (you probably don't see many of these mini cars in the US)
would cost a couple of hundred less!
