I recently had a 20V NA head rebuild which bent valves as a result of an
accident at 60k miles. The valves stem seals were leaking quite a bit as
there was a fair amount of oil on the intake and exhaust sides.
Its not exactly something that's easy to check, or correct for that matter,
but leaking valve stem seals could be the cause of your oil consuption. My
'86 5ktq 10V didn't use more than 1/2 quart per 5k miles, even at 235k miles.
