overheating?

My 1980 5000S's fan does continue to run after shut-off, although at a
lower speed.  Quite easy to see in the Bentley diagram-fan is connected
directly to the battery power line thru a series resistor in the motor. 
When the ignition's on, a relay bypasses the resistor and applies full
power to the fan when the radiator thermoswitch activates (at too high a
temperature IMHO).
