IRC is Internet Relay Chat, a crude form of AOL chat rooms :).
IRC runs on many different servers, and there are different 
IRC "networks" if you want to call them that, so that you need
to know what server or group of servers to point at.

I've tossed around the idea of setting up a dedicated server just
for us, but I'm not sure how many people would be interested or
even able to use it.
