 Yes. The fluid that came in your manual transmission  was synthetic.
It was a 75W 90 GL-4 and it cost $25 a quart. Only a GL-4 is to be used.

You can use Redline Synthetic MT-90. It's a 75W 90 GL-4 at $8.00 a

Thats what I use in my 1990 Coupe quattro.
