I've seen a few posts regarding leaking trannies. Here's an interesting
point that will make owners of warranty cars take note. Conversly,
those out of warranty will not be too happy.

My 92 100cs had a persistant oil leak, which was finally resolved with a
new oil pump. Along the way, the intermediate oil pan was replaced
along with a bunch of seals and gaskets. For the first six months and
about 7,500 miles, I never had to change oil. The dealer kept doing it
for me for free every time they pulled the pan and tried to find the
leak.

After about a half dozen attempts, requiring leaving the car over night
or for several days, it was finally fixed. (To there credit, I had a
loaver everytime) In the process, they steamed the bottom end several
times, making it squeaky clean to see if oil was coming out. Lo nd
behold, the started seeing some red stuff. It was traced to the tranny
case. No seals, gasket of put-together pieces, just leaking though the
casting. Appraently when it was cast, the aluminum was pourous and
developed pin holes. It was resolved to my delight with a spanking
brand new complete tranny and drive unit.

Mine was one of those Audi assured warranties put on a used car (bought
in 96 wiht 50K miles) It required a authorization from Audi of America
but I'm really glad (about $5,000 glad) it happened under warranty.

Maybe others have the same problem.
