Mine cracked some years back. On the bottom, where the hose is attached. 
It was a slow, slight drip. After I traced it and figured it out I 
realized that the metal insert had not been pushed it all the way (or it 
moved, which I doubt) and so years of vibration had caused the crack.

Fortunately my mechanic has a VW van full of old tanks and it was "find 
the one you need, you're welcome to it".
