Electrical help

It seems that every time I lift up the hood on my car, I find more wrong with
it! This time it is in the relay box in the right rear of the engine
compartment. Upon inspection of the relays, I noticed that two were switched
(12 amp for 30 amp). As I removed the 12 amp in the 30 amp socket (for power
windows according to the diagram), I found that it was very hot. I put the 12
amp relay back into its correct place (marked for power locks and interior
dome lights), and everything worked for that relay fine. But when I put the
30 amp into the relay for the power windows where it belonged according to
the diagram, smoke appeared. I removed it immediately. There are two relays
for power windows in this box. The other is also 30 amp, and is combined with
the sunroof. With the faulty relay removed, the power windows still work. But
the feature that allows you to close the windows and sunroof with the key
from the door no longer works. Is this the only thing this relay does? How
would I go about diagnosing where the short or other problem was?
