W12 A8 seen in colorado

Hello all!!

I have not been keeping up with the list lately, so sorry if this is old
news.

While looking at a use 92 S4 at an undisclosed Colorado Audi dealer, the
sales person told me that some Audi engineers had an A6 and an A8 with a
twelve cylinder engine.  I ask if it was the W12, thinking that it
wouldn't be because the rags reported the 12cly would be a V, and to my
surprise, he said it was.  But then quickly said it was top secret.
Well, not any more.

The source for this info is pretty good, but I did not see it with my
own eyes.  Anyone else know anything about this?
