Re: Sunroof Trim

Thanks for all the replies on the falling sunroof trim. It appears Dave
Head was correct to say this is an Audi trait. Based on all the advice,
I'm pulling the sunroof today, and will use 3M General Trim Adhesive.
If it falls off again, I'll try the 3M Super Trim Adhesive, being
careful to keep it off of any exposed foam or fabric. Both of these are
professional products available at an auto paint store. The paint store
salesman said the residue on the panel looked like the General Trim
Adhesive.

Already removed most of the old glue from both pieces, using 3M General
Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. This is naphtha plus certain aromatics; good
ventilation and solvent-resistant gloves are important.

Summary of replies:

Same problem	Fixed with/recommend	Remove panel	Doesn't work

Dave Head	yes 3M Trim Adhesive,	yes
				rubber cement,
				weatherstrip

Donna Sims	yes gorilla snot,
									spray adhesive

Mike Tipton	yes Scotch Super 90 yes
				spray adhesive

Mark Pollan	yes

Lynn Smith	yes

Thanks also to Derek Daily for his advice on the coathanger. I'll use
that to R&R the springs on the pop-up panel.

Lynn Smith asked about alignment. The foam panel is molded to match the
steel panel stamping. The sunroof alignment procedure is in the service
manual, and I think in the archives. One key seems to be that the front
must be no higher than the back, to reduce wind noise.

Thanks again!
