'87 mechanical spedo cable

On my '87 5000, with mechanical spedometer, there's a plastic (or maybe
nylon) mounting clip on the end of the cable to secure it to the spedo
assy, and it's broken.  I've checked the local bone yards, but all the
Audis that use this cable have the same clip broken on them.  Does anyone
know of a more durable replacement for this, or do I have to replace the
entire cable to get a new mounting clip?  Any home remedies for this also
welcome.
