Yep.  Special tools are required to remove the radio from the dash.  :-)
Not hardly.

These very special tools can be made from two 6 inch pieces of coat hanger
wire.  Bend two pieces of wire into "U" shapes with the ends of the "U" at
about the same distance apart as the two holes on one end of the radio.
Insert the "tops" of the "U"s into the holes at each end of the radio to
about 1-1.5 inches depth.  Then gently press the bottoms of the "U"s apart.
 This releases the spring-loaded catches which hold the radio in the dash
bracket.  While holding the two "U"s apart, use your third hand to insert a
finger tip into the tape deck hole and pull the radio out.
