I was there, and you all should get my report on the Q list. Regarding
Sakis, he came in something like 13th or 15th overall- I think he is a
better mechanic than he is a driver... he seemed quite abit more
conservative than most of the others in the top 25...
I was working the two in-town stages at night- the canadians who are
used to tarmac stages really hung it out, but my favorites (after
Sprongl, of course) were the Langen twins. The Irish duo realllly hung
it out in their late 80's/early '90's Ford Escort... infact they damn
near made the ESPN guy filming the last turn of the stage pee his pants!
But I digress.
Regarding Choiniere, he rolled his Tiburon into a hole _so_ big that he
only damged the front end and the left front fender. His teamate
actually goofed a turn and slid up a 4 foot high rock, taking out the
skidplate and some other vital organs....
Taken from Andy Schupack's race notes:
> 46. Jon Kemp and Gail McGuire fell out of the top five in their Audi 4000
> Quattro after they were forced to change a flat tire on stage #10,
> dropping them from fifth to eighth place.
For the record: while my friend and I had our impromptu attempt at a
Nascar style pit stop, only one other car passed while the we changed
the wheel on the 4000... I guess we weren't fast enough...
