Coupe GT vibration in steering wheel -Reply

On my 87 Coupe GT, I recently replaced rotors and pads. I had been
fighting a balancing problem in the front since I purchased the car in 1990.
This is the first rotor and pad change since then. My efforts at balancing
included trading in tires for a different brand, replacing wheels and tires
(upgrade to 15"), and finally culminated in the balancing of them while on
the car. It was successful but a bit of a problem due to the amount of
labor involved and the corresponding cost, not to mention tire rotation.

Once the rotors and pads were changed the vibration was all but
eliminated. The remaining steering wheel "wiggle" is very minor and I
intend to mount and balance my new Pirelli P700's and see that the
vibration is completely eliminated :-) . (Crossed fingers here).

The old rotors were very rust-crusted in the "vent" areas. My premise is
that they had achieved a slight out-of-balance condition of their own. I
will also be rebuilding the entire front end soon (along with new rear
shocks) so if there's any other cause of vibration, it too will be gone.

Audi-on!
