<Audi> Off-idle problem solved

When I bought my '90 200tqw in May, it had *terrible* off-idle response. Of
course, it had every vacuum/intake leak in the book. After replacing almost
all of the underhood vacuum lines, intercooler hoses, etc. it still had
erratic off-idle response.

Well, after tearing my hair out for months, I finally found the problem.
The clip that allows for adjusting the throttle cable under the hood was
missing. So what was happening was:

100 Press accelerator.
200 Throttle cable slips some (more when hot); opens throttle some.
300 Acceleration sucks; go to 100 until acceleration adequate.
400 Off accelerator; throttle spring pulls cable somewhat back in adjustment.
500 Go to 100, continue to get pissed.

Also, flooring the accelerator was producing only about 75% open throttle.
So now I not only have greatly improved throttle response, but I get all the
benefits of a fully opened throttle. Life is good.

Everyone check those clips! As previously noted on the list, throttle
cables stretch anyway and need to be adjusted; I've done this many times
before. Having the clip missing was a first, however......SLM
