Laughing at history, and Audi selling stratagy

I was browsing the archives and ran across this, I don't want to start the
tread tthis came from, but found it interesting, espically about the
companies not planning to drop the I-6. Sorry if it has already been brought
up.

>>BMW evolved the 6's to the peak
(the M5 of 91 vintage) but found that it was basically a race motor, ate gas,
and made serious noise in a new slippery quiet body......... The v8
execution is nothing short of a coup, keep the high torque 6's in your sub 3
liter motors, then the v8 from 3-5 liters, then the 12 @ 5.0l..... Yes,
mecedes did the same thing, and it's a smart move..... Neither car company
has intentions of dumping the I-6, and shouldn't for the reasons you stated,
but you cross the 3 liter mark with a I-6 and the v8 becomes a better choice,
short term and long, mercedes or BMW,<<

Aren't I-6's history for MB? I remeber reading an article about them in ec,

Many have been adding their opions about Audi's selling stratagie, so here is
my .02. Back in the '80s Audi made nice, upscale sport sedans, interior was
nice, and the cars had all the gismos, but more importantly they were
responsive, firm handeling, fast (turbo's), loads of torque. This sold lots
of cars for a virtually unheard of maker, untill 60 Minutes. . . What I'm
getting at the cars were more sporty than luxuary. Thier suspensios were
tight, and the cars were well built. Now its as if Audi has given up being a
sports car maker in favor of a luxuary car maker. Audi should bring back the
turbocharged I-5 quattro, tune it a little, or a lot, and shove it in the A4
and A6 for a little kick, or turbocharge the new 30 valve, and definatly a
twinturbo A8 (I'm thinking 450 bph range) would be nice.
This would kill sales of Volvo 850tR sports sedans, and Audi could make a
car that blows the S**t out of that M3 using the parts bin. Get back to
their roots, with a little luxuary. There are a lot of people who need a
four door car that haul people as well as ass.
Audi at leat needs to sell a true sport option for the 1.8t if aftermarket
can pump out 350 bph at least Audi could squeeze 280. Charge 38,000 for it,
and you would be underselling an M3 4 door. Too few people know what can be
done with the 1.8, I saw Motor Trend TV today and it had the 1.8 against a
Mazda Protege and Haundai POS, and called it sluggish BS. It shouldn't have
been mentioned in the same breath.
I know the twin turbo V8 is a dream, and would cost a fortune. However,
the other two have been tossed around before, and is what Audi needs. If you
have a 5000CSqt or S4 what replacement is their? An A6q, or A8 I think not.
If you want speed and luxuary M3, 540i, STS, 850R or whatever it is now,
even Buick has a new supercharged sportsedan.
Just my .02 I will now get off my soap box, and I know I am a bit of a
hippocrite for owning a 5000S and V8q, but I will defend the V8 as being
sporty, once it gets above 3000 RPM.
