Quattro pampering (was engine seems OK)

That's about the life I get out of my rear pads/disks.  I usually find that 
the disks are rusted around the edge, and new ones are so cheap (from ECP, 
G&S etc.) that I tend to replace them.

Good luck with getting the carrier bolts off.  I split a 15mm socket a 
couple of years ago, then I rounded the bolt and skinned my knuckles (blood 
everywhere).  In the end, I removed the strut and anglegrinded the head of 
the bolt off.  Now I have a snap-on 15mm and other essential sizes (10, 13, 
17, 19) to replace the standard 12 sided ones in my trusty Draper socket 
set.
