No, they can't.  Audi officially lists the alloy block as "not available" and
has done so since at least 1989.  Most of the Sports have cast iron blocks.
 
(From a cursory examination of a dozen or so last year, most of the continental
 Sports on the roads do NOT have the original heads.)
