Demons BE GONE !

Well after a day of exorcism, the spirits may be gone, for now... The
cut out seemed to boost related. I dont know why but I had a hunch. The
engine would never cut during a non boost situation. But if I tried to pull
a holeshot, and made the boost build very rapidly, I would get the cut. The
VDO 0-30 gauge would never read more that just a hair above 10psi during the
cut-out. How many psi should the over-boost come into effect? The car is
stock, with the exception of freer exhaust, and a K&N filter. I at one point
removed the wastegate cap and knocked out disk that covers the adjusting
screw for the spring. By doing this I was able to pump the boost up from 8psi
to the aforementioned 10psi, no big deal. What I did gain was throttle
response, the car is very crisp down low, and comes up on boost much
quicker. I didn't think that the level of boost was affecting the cut-off as
much as the rate of the boost . I remember some time ago there was a thre
was about limiting the amount of boost that the computer sees. There are two
ways of doing this, electronically by resisting the voltage down after the
pressure transducer inside the computer itself. the second is to bleed off,
or regulate the actual pressure the computer sees before the transducer. I
went to the pet shop and bought an aquarium regulator, installed it inline
to the computer, and started tweakin' down the pressure. Believe it or not
this solved my problem. With the wastegate tweaked all the way, just short
of coil-bind, the boost was reading about 10-11psi. We had a 50something
degree night here north of chicago and she was making some good power.
The regulator also works well with a higher tension spring for even
bigger boost. The next thing will be to loosen the spring up a lil, and
ad me a second regulator, ie SchrapfnelKnobben. I thing there are benefits
to using the twin regulator setup rather than getting out the soldering iron
and goin' at the interior of my mac-02. I know I'm not the first to do
this, but it did work for me. If anyone wants more of the gory details,
E-mail me directly.

I am ordering my vanity plates tomorrow or Monday. They were going to read
MARTIAN or MARTIAN Q, but after this last ordeal I am going for DAMIEN.
