On the "opposite" end of the battery experiences:

I placed my Coupe into "Long term" storage out in Tucson
Arizona, several years back.  I was moving overseas for at
least
2 years!  So, the car would sit, in its all metal container
at least 2
years before it seen daylight again!  

Basically all I did to the battery, was disconnect the
positive lead!!

At that time it already was a 2 year old battery.

Needless to say, upon my return, 1 year and 9 months later,
I reconnected the batteries positive lead, and the Audi
fired right up!

Both my friend and I were a bit surprised!

That battery lasted another 3 years!  It got replaced
troubleshooting
an alternator problem, in which it probably wasn't bad!

Almost all my batteries last well past their "rated" life. 
Suprising, 
considering the 500 watt stereo system, and higher wattage
