"Syncro" 5 spd, etc.
Slisters,
Kinda cool having a list!
Well, Some good news and bad. So much for a free 5 spd for a QSW :-<
The guy had what was apparently an _automatic_ out of a GL5 Sedan.
(no Syncro) It had a code of 089, or so he says. It was so caked in
sludge and at the bottom of the pile of other non vw stuff that I
didn't look any closer. Apparently, there used to be a QSW there and
that is what created the rumor. The qsw left him as a complete car
and he doesn't know where it is now.
But, I didn't leave empty handed. I left with 2 stock elect. win
switches, a P/ SR motor, 2 good looking wiper arm assy's, and a small
paper bag full of vw only relays etc. (for only 10 bucks!)
I guess we'll have to keep following up on these leads :-)
Tech Q. I have had the red "charge lite" come on occasionally for
approx. 1 yr. Back when it started, I tested the alt (& V regulator),
battery, and the wires/ connections between them. Slowly but surely,
my _7 1/2 yr old_ battery gave it up and began to not even take a
charge. Had to jump start several times. I installed the new super
duper batt and had the alt tested again. Alt showed charging ~84
Amps, and was determined to be good. Off and on since then, the red
lite (and the accompanying oxy sens lite) will still come on. I
haven't yet had any sign that the batt or alt aren't working okay
during testing, (only the lite) Note: as on my past 90 Jetta GLI
2.0-16V, the red lite stays on a "little too long" after first
starting. This was described as normal by both dealer and Auto
Electric store for the 90 Amp alt. BTW, There aren't any shorts or
intermittent groundings that can be detected.
I'm stumped. Let me know if you've had any similar experiences, or can
offer any advice/anecdotes.
TIA,
MSH
