Congratulations Robert! You are now the recipient of a new window regulator
available from many parts suppliers. I too had the "sand" noise in the drivers side
window regulator. In my case, the cable running inside the regulator was becoming
stripped and was binding up. The cable becomes loose and snaps against the
metal track for the sliding actuator. This sound like sand being dropped against a
metal plate no? Anyway, I ordered two rebuilt regulators from Mounain Automotive
products in Castle Rock Co as the passengers side was really acting up too.
These rebuilt units are supposed to be superior to the
OEM regulators in that they replace all of the problem parts with better and
reinforced pieces and they have a 3 year warranty on them. They have yet to see
one of these rebuilt units come back with a problem. No affiliation with them
whatsoever, just a satisfied customer. HTH

P.S. Btw Phil, I had greased this old regulator about a year ago and it still
failed me :-(
