cam advance (timing gear adjustmnent)

Hi Y'all,

Some while back there was much discussion about advancing timing by
"slipping" one tooth on the timing belt.

Well... I'm putting in a new belt in a day or two.  Which direction (facing
the engine from the front of the car)  CW or CCW advances the valve timing?
Is there some compelling reason either for or against doing this?
