RE: fuel filter replacement
On your 100, I think the fuel filter is in the engine bay - much more
convenient than
under the rear floor - like on 4k/90 cars.
The main problems are (and I'm no expert, so maybe someone will help us both):
(1) you need to hold the filter body with one wrench while you loosen the bolts
with another
(2) fuel, under pressure sprays all over you and the engine, and you may need
to stopper the feed line
(3) if you don't tighten the new filter connectors enough, #2 repeats forever
:-)
I change mine every 30k. Audi recommends every 60k - at least on the 90, but
the dealer rarely
changes it, in my experience. Note that if you have lots of junk in your gas,
there is a pre-filter
in the bottom of the gas tank, which is generally never changed.
FYI:
At the 30k mark I do the gas and air filters, cap, rotor, and plugs. Note the
rotor is glued
to the distributor shaft and must be crushed off.
At the 60k mark I also do the timing belt, brake fluid, most hoses,
anti-freeze, check belts.
