Weak A4 paint

I don't know if this has been visited beofre, but does anyone think the 
"esteemed multi-step paint process" of Audi is hogwash?  I have a '96 A4q, and 
have driven it since April of 1996.  I have odd chips down to what seems to be 
the body (silver shows through) in odd places.  Like in the rain gutter above 
the drivers door!  I do not have a roof reack of any kind.  My '87 Celica, 
driven from DC to NJ and back at least once a month during my 4 years in 
college never showed as many chips, and I did highway driving.  My hood 
(bonnet) and bumper are chiped up, and I only drive 5 miles to work for the 
most part, at 25 mph mostly, and park in a garage. ANyone else think the paint 
is thin?
