I can't say my experience is with the 4kq, but with my Coupe GT. I just
replaced my exhaust recently and went with a custom system from a local
shop who bent all the pipes inhouse to fit my car. I looked at
stainless, like the Scorpion, but could not justify $800 for a
stainless, which did not include labor. I replaced my middle muffler
with a resonator and the rear with a free flow muffler, and a 3 and 1/2"
chrome slant cut rounded tip, and all this for $190 which included
labor. The pipe was 2 and 1/4 inch and not 2 and 1/2, because I didn't
want a real obnoxious sound, just enough to make it sound mean. It
kinda sounds like a V8 now while idling. Oh, and the system is all
aluminized, which will hold up longer than regular steal and the welds
will probably hold up longer than with a stainless system. I was told
that stainless systems tend to shake loose after a while. Don't quote
me on that.

With my stock exhaust, I noticed my engine struggle around 4K and peak
out around 5k, but now with the free flow exhaust the engines pulls from
about 3500 to almost 6k, and I can now hit red line with not much
effort. The exhaust note is mostly coming out the back end of the car
and I don't much notice the increased noise, except for on hot days,
cruising at 55mph, or pulling into the enclosed garage where I park my
car at work. The sound really vibrates off the walls in the garage.

So, custom exhaust system, better engine response, more power, great for
the daily driver.
