Agreed. I think that the S/N ratio would take a big dive
if we move to a newsgroup.

I like the mailing list format as is. I also don't like the
idea of a fee. It's not that I am cheap, but I fear that the
fee would change the nature of the list to its detriment.
People are appreciative of the list and your generosity in
maintaining it. I am not sure it's going to be the same if
people are paying for it. We would also likely lose a lot of
"members" due to the fee.
If ANS will no longer host this list, I am sure there are other
sites who will gladly take it over for free (just like how you
so graciously did from David Tashjian at Sun, waayyy back when).
There is really no need to reinvent the wheel and buy in new
equipment, register new domain, etc.
