First, calm down y'all.

Well, who told the magazines? Just 'cos it's printed in a magazine
don't make it true. Wouldn't surprise me if they printed a press release
from Mr Hoppen pretty much verbatim.

Such sources usually have to remain anonymous. Which means that we can't
put too much credance on the information. The source may have an axe to
grind, on the other hand, it may be that AoA had an agreement with Mr
Hoppen to 'allow' him to retire where it was really 'retire or you're
fired'.

One comment on the chip...

If the source is Audi and it is undetectable by the dealers... it would
most likely be undetectable by various sanctioning bodies too.
No, they wouldn't do that...

If it _is_ undetectable by the dealer, then it can't be doing anything.
If it is doing something, all they have to do is drive the car...
'Duh, hey Joe, this one goes a lot faster than the others we've had
in...'
