Re: front speakers on 4kcsq
Hi,
Ha! something I can answer, finally,
(or maybe at least partially) instead of just mooching info from all
of you guys. 1st, as an aside, I want to thank all of you who wrote to me
on my 4ks problems including struts, windows, etc. I haven't thanked you
all yet, or even used all the info due to having to unexpectedly work over
the weekend. Thanks just the same, I will be using your info.
Now to the topic at hand: Saquib writes:

I just started this on what little time I did have off monday evening.
Here's how I started it.
Removal: pull out the A/C vents just beneath each speaker. If your hands
aren't small, procure and assistant now. Anyway, reach in with a stubby
x-point screwdriver and unscrew the two mounting screws (opposite sides
of the circle) that simultaneoulsy hold the speaker/grill assembly to the
dash. Just the 2 screws, and 2 wires and the speaker will come out the
top of the dash when you push it from below.
The trick is that the speaker and mounting-bracket are pretty much one piece.
The grill is glued onto the same assembly. You're now as far as I managed to
get. It looks as if you'd need to pretty much cut the driver out of the old
assembly and epoxy or otherwise attach the new driver to the old grill/bracket
assembly. Let me know how this works. If anyone else knows differently,
please let us know. I was planning on tackling this this coming weekend after
getting a pair of extra factory speakers (possibly cheap and non-functional)
from the local salvage lot to practice on.
So, there you have it. Half an answer. If anyone does already know the
second half, do let both of us know. For now, it looks like a fabrication
job.
regards
