New member / Reliability w/ the 1.8T

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the list.  Right now I have 3 Audis:  A '91 200, an '87
4000CSQ, and an '86 4000S.  I also have a 95 VW GTI VR6.  I have a friend
who is looking at a new GTI or an A4 1.8TQ.  He is concerned with
reliability with the turbo after modifications.  I'll post his message.
Also, what is the concensus on the 30V engine?  Worth the extra $ or save 
it and modify the 1.8.  Anyway, I look forward to finding out more about
my cars on this list.

How much durability is lost when pumping out a much greater level of hp
from the 1.8t?  One would think that the turbo's life would be cut severly
short. I am concerned because, in addition to the GTI, I am also 
considering buying an A4 1.8tq.
