Re[2]: Air bags (again) (marginal Audi content)

I too question the validity of these numbers. They smack of governmental
cooking of the data to get the desired results. I believe in wearing
seatbelts for personal protection in case of an accident. I do not think that
I need to be protected from myself. That is the agenda of the NHTSA and the
insurance industry in my opinion. Stephen C. Kemmerer

The obvious question (to me, anyway) is how does the NHTSA calculate these
stats? I suspect it's fairly easy to determine how many people were killed
by an airbag (then again, maybe not) but determining how many people were
"saved" seems *much* more problematic since the mere fact that an airbag
deployed and they lived doesn't necessarily imply a causal relationship
between the two event.
