A4 Dash Illumination FYI

I recently noticed that the illumination in the Climate Control Unit of my
1998 A4 2.8Q would intermittently flash when the headlights were on and the
dash lighting rheostat was turned to the lowest setting.

I found this very distracting and informed my dealer of the problem to have
them check it out.

As it turns out, this is a problem that affects many 98 A4's, and AoA will
willingly replace the unit under warranty.  (However, the replacement units
are currently backordered.)

Most people will not realize that their car is afflicted with this problem,
unless they drive with the dash illumination at the lowest setting.  At
that, the unit flashes at a rate of approximately once every two or three
minutes.
