I had a used-car salesman threaten to do the same after I pulled off the
intercooler tube (2 screws/3 minutes) on a Mitsubishi Starion I was looking
at while he wandered off to find the sales manager ... he refused to let me
reinstall it, insisted that only his mechanic could do so and wanted to
charge me for it!  When I explained that I wasn't going to pay him and I
wasn't going to buy the car, either, he threatened to call the police ...
rather than stay around and argue, I decided to leave.  Too bad I'd already
given him my business card ... got several harassing phone calls from him
about the car running poorly (it had a bad turbo, which is why I pulled it
apart in the first place!) and trying to make me take respsonsibility for it.

Of course, if I had two-year old car on my lot priced at $6,600 that had
sold for nearly $30,000 when new, and it was expensively broken, I'd be
desperate to unload it, too!
