No, I don't think that's correct.  The fact that Audi's VW1551 didn't use the 
rapid data mode doesn't mean it isn't on the cars of the period.  Bosch was 
providing the Jetronic and Motronic to other manufacturers besides Audi - many 
of _them_ were further advanced and capable of using the rapid mode.  
Certainly, the rapid mode is available on 1991 20v ur-quattros.
 
I often think that Audi are tapping around in the dark with Bosch products, mis-
applying and inadequately exploiting them.
