On my '87 5ks, it was an a/c cut-out switch ... the kickdown is handled by a
seperate lever triggered by the throttle linkage.  Under full-throttle
acceleration, the switch turns off the a/c ... on my girlfriend's '89 Fox,
VW used a vacuum switch instead and it cuts out any time you're over half
throttle (which, in a gutless car like this one, is most of the time ...
just what we need here in the desert).
