re: Plug Wires (was Unintended D.)
How long should spark plug wires last? Several folks have
thought that plug
wires could be my problem (can't rev above 3500 rpm). I
need to check my
service records, but I don't believe that they have ever
been changed (134 K
miles). If I change them, should I do OEM or one of the
after-market varieties?
Thanks,
Alan Page
Alan,
See my Ahab posts. My plug wires only had 82k on
them.
Prolly should have included this in my post. I bought
Blue Ignitors from Rapid Parts for about $160. Quality
seems good, but they are shorter than the originals, hence
a tighter fit. Also, I paid extra for third day air shipping,
and was promised by the owner of Rapid Parts they would
go out on a monday. They arrived on a friday, and it
wasn't the fault of UPS. The wires solved my problem,
which was pleasing, but it certainly irks me that Rapid
Parts didn't ship when they said, didn't let me know they
weren't shipping on time, and still charged me extra for
shipping. If you can get OEM wires for less, they'll work
just as well (assuming your problem is indeed wires).
Mr Bentley gives the resistance figures for checking your
wires, but I decided they were suspect anyway.
