'91 200Q: various sensors and switches

Hi Arun,
Seems we simultaneously got Bentleys for our '91 200Qs. Sorta "War and
Peace" squared, isn't it? Can't wait for the movie version--could be a
great Pixar project? ;-) (**)

The after-run doesn't function on my '91 either, with same symptoms as you
describe (shorting switch makes it come on). BTW, afterrun on my '89 100
takes a couple of minutes to come on (but not 5). I've concluded that the
switch ('91) must be bad, so I'm gonna twist the dealer's arm to replace it
under the warranty (1 yr) that came with the car. I don't have the oil (or
w-washer) light problem, but I do occasionally have the brake-pad wear
indicator come on, even though there are new pads all around. Need to check
those wires I guess.

Question: Does your '91 have the "check engine light" or the "door ajar"
warning lights in the dash? Mine (late '91) has neither of these
working--although the chime sounds if any door is open when ignition is on.
Some have said that these lights are often "removed" by owners, but I
suspect that they may be omitted by the factory--at least the "check
engine" one.

(**) "Bentley Revisited": Leading character will be a begrimed sprite with
English accent (named Payne?) who clambers about under the bonnet, pointing
out areas of interest whilst sending sidekick (Freddy Fiche) off on
errands--with microcam--to view the inner workings of various urQs and
(even) later Audi models. Probably be PG-13 rated (for occasional use of
profanity) (c) 1997
