The only unusual noise from my recently acquired '91 200q is the fuel pump
buzz, which is sorta' high-pitched (yeh, like a bee, perhaps 1 1/2 or 2
bees) and loud enough to hear over the exhaust at idle--even 10 or 12 feet
away. My Audi-mechanic neighbor commented that "they're often a whole lot
noisier than that (i.e., Audi pumps)" and added that he wouldn't be
particularly concerned. Of course not, it's MY car ;-)

Anyway, is a new, perfect fuel pump really noiseless? I can't say I've ever
noticed (heard) the pump in my '89 100; is it a different (quieter) design
than in the '91 200q? Or are these pumps just very variable in sound,
normally?

Phil

[Is a solution to this problem just a louder exhaust? ;-)]
