Warped rotors - my .02

Marathon Motors in Traverse City, Michigan (Northern) did some excellent
work on my '90 CQ this spring. When I asked about rotating rotors, they
opined that rotors typically pit as well as warp. In wintry climates w/
plenty of road salt, salt can accumulate in small quantities inside the
pit, causing it to corrode in a V pattern (with the wide end of the V
oriented towards the *inside* of the rotor. That means if you
rotate/resurface the rotor, you will probably make the pits larger rather
than smaller, so reduce the surface area in contact w/ the pad.

So to the general advice of "resurface if they're and not too warped,
replace if they're old or too warped" I would add

"resurface if they're new and not too warped *and not too pitted*,
replace otherwise"

Which in almost all cases means replace if you live in the snow belt.

By the way, New England colors are peaking right about now....won't be
long....
