thanks for everyone who responded to my question.

the conclusion: my wife's A4 quattro needs a set of snow tires if
it were to survive in new england during winter. i guess i have
to stick to the pirelli A210Ps. altho lately, i've seen newer
pirellis in the TIRE RACK's ads.
