Re: BFG Comp T/A VR4
Jim, just some thoughts on all-seasons in general in 7 years of owning
my Coupe. I have found them acceptable for the first winter driving, but
after they get down to 3/4 - 1/2 tread, snow performance drops noticeably.
I have bitten the bullet and gotten 4 add'l wheels and snow tires for winter
use.
I have gone thru 12" of virgin snow up and down hills with them with no
problems;
snow handling and braking is superior, too, to the all seasons (HR Michelins,
as I remember).
This is in hilly Western PA terrain (Pittsburgh area).
if you decide to go the 4 snow tire route, keep in mind that you cannot use
14" wheels on the Coupe; the larger front brakes demand 15" wheels. Also,
60-series (or lower aspect ratio) aren't the best for snow; narrower tires
will
stick better. Have gone to 185/70 or 195/65 on snows.

I read some threads a couple months ago on tires in general,
and BF Goodrich's specifically.
Now, excuse me if this question repeats any others, but what's
the general consensus on the BFG Comp T/A VR4?
I ran Michelin XGTV4s for about 35 to 40K miles into this fall, was
pretty happy with dry and wet performance, and was happy with
snow performance during the first of 2 NE winters I went through
with them...
Anyway, a sales guy at one of the big warehouse stores
recommended the BFG Comp T/A VR4 for both handling and
treadwear. It's obvious that the treadwear index is much higher
than the michelin (both in V-speed rating), but is there anything
else I should think about before buying? Do they handle well?
Do they go through the dry stuff, the wet stuff and the fluffy stuff
well?
I'd appreciate any opinions that you folks can offer!
Thanks,
Jim Fraser
