My Audi vandalized: the estimate
Thanks for all the sympathy and tips for dealing with insurance
representatives to all who responded. After calling all 3 Audi dealers in the
Pittsburgh area, all 3 recommended the same place to take my car for an
estimate (Greater Pittsburgh Auto Center). As I pulled into the lot, there
were at least 7 Audi's of various years in the lot for body repairs, so it
looks like a reputable place. After inspection, the guy doing the estimate
and I seemed to agree on what needed replaced. The area around the radio was
the only area really damaged. The rest of the dash turned out o.k. But the
two switches to the right and left of the radio (power mirrors and cigarette
lighter) are really scratched and need replaced. The wood trim piece around
the climate controls also needs replaced. The seat leather is goind to be a
problem. The guy suggested complete replacement of the covers for the drivers
seat, and the replacement of the back cover for the passenger seat. The
armrest was bent and very scratched, so it needs replaced also. Finally, the
door panel on the passenger side has a hole in it where the cememt block hit
it, so it needs replaced. So here's the breakdown of the estimate:
Drivers side window $205
Left front seat upper cover (leather) $878
Right front seat lower cover (leather) $803
Right front seat upper cover (leather) $879
Front arm rest $532
Right front door trim panel $308
Woodgrain trim for around climate control $263
Power mirror switch $11
Cigarette lighter $12
Recovery of front seats (the passenger
seat cover that is not damaged) $250
Labor $428
Grand Total $4591
The adjuster from Erie Insurance is coming sometime tomorrow. As of today, we
still do not know if the juvenile's parents have insurance yet. This means if
I get a rental, I have to pay for it if the kid's parents can't afford to
pay! I hope the insurance guy is at least soemwhat reasonable in my case!
