Wiper blade tracking
At 190K, my '92 100CSQW continues to thrum along nicely, but in recent
weeks I've noticed that the driver's side wiper blade does not seem to
clear as large an area than previously was the case, specifically the
far left-hand side of the windshield as it is viewed from the driver's
seat.
I have replaced the wiper assemblies -- blades and the mechanisisms on
which they are mounted -- on both sides, but there's no apparent
improvement. My friend the longtime Audi mechanic suggests that the
driver's side wiper arm may have been slightly bent out of shape through
repeated automated car wash experiences (and indeed I've taken the car
through such places in cold winter weather to get salt and sand off),
altho to my eyes there is no apparent difference in the angle of the
driver's side arm compared to the other arm. Maybe the difference is
too subtle to notice. My friend suggests that the driver's side arm can
be gently and carefully bent downward without damaging its connection to
the wiper motor assembly, and this may take care of the problem. Before
I try that, I'd like input from anyone who may be able to offer any
other suggestions, or validate my friend's suggestion. Thanks.
